Flashcards in Forces, Motion & Links Deck (17):
1

Deflection force

Pressing on an object causing it to bend
Ex. Trampoline or Diving board

2

Tension force

Pulling from 2 or more directions causing it to stretch (be tense)
Ex. Tug of war

3

Compression force

Pushing from 2 or more directions to causing it to be squeezed (compressed)
Ex. Slinky

4

Torsion force

Twisting an object to cause its parts to move in opposite directions
Ex. Wringing out a towel

5

Shearing force

Pulling an object to cause its parts to move in opposite directions
Ex. Tearing a piece of paper

6

Translational motion

Movement in a straight line
Ex. Pushing a table or Moving a cart on a straight track

7

Rotational motion

Movement in a circle (rotating)

8

Helical motion

A combination of translation and rotational at the same time
Ex: Helicopter, Frisbee or Drill press

9

Projectile motion

Movement in a curved path in the air affected by gravity
Ex: Basketball shot, Arrow being shot ( basically a parabola)

10

Direct link

Only uses itself to link together
Ex: Lego

11

Indirect link

Separate part that links objects together
Ex: Staple

12

Rigid link

A rigid link cannot be bent
Ex: Screw

13

Flexible link

A flexible link is flexible and bendable
Ex: Phone case

14

Removable link

A removable link can be removed
Ex: Velcrow

15

Permanent link

A permanent link cannot be removed without damaging any object
Ex: Glue

16

Partial link

A partial link allows one component to move while the other doesn't
Ex: Door hinge

17

Complete link

A complete link ensures that both components move together
Ex: Phone case
