Forearm Flashcards
(66 cards)
The parts of the forearm
Radius
ulna
interosseous membrane
What are the forearm joints?
Proximal radial ulnar joints
Distal radial ulnar joint
What is the Proximal radial ulnar joint formed by?
radial head and the radial notch of the ulna
What does the Proximal radial ulnar joint do?
- is a pivot joint in which the radial head rotates around the radial notch of the ulna
What ligament attaches the Proximal radioulnar joint?
Annular ligament- forms a ring around the radial notch and radial head.
What is the distal radioulnar joint formed by?
Formed by the ulnar head and the ulnar notch of the radius
What does the distal radial ulnar joint do?
is a pivot joint where the ulnar notch of the radius rotates around the ulnar head
What ligament attaches the distal radioulnar joint?
Articular disc and dorsal and anterior ligaments(runs transverse from the radius to the ulna)
During supination of the forearm?
Palm is up and the ulna and radius are parallel
During Neutral position of the forearm?
(Handshake) Ulna and radius are parallel but the radius is superior to the ulna
During pronation of the forearm?
Palm is down and the radius is crossed over the ulna
Intermediate layer of the flexor pronator muscles?
Flexor digitorum superficialis (FDS)
Deep Layer of the flexor pronator muscles?
Flexor digitorum profundus (FDP), Flexor pollicis longus (FPL) and pronator quadratus
What are the 3 flexor layers in the forearm
superficial
intermediate
deep
what is included in the superficial layer ?
pronator teres, flexor carpi radialis (FCR), palmaris longus, and flexor carpi ulnaris (FCU)
Proximal attachment of Pronator teres
Coronoid process of ulna and head of humerus (2 heads)
Distal attachment of Pronator teres
Middle of lateral surface of radius
Innervation of Pronator teres
Median Nerve (C6, C7)
Main action of Pronator teres
Pronates forearm and flexes elbow
Flexor carpi radialis (FCR) Proximal attachment
medial epicondyle of humerus
Flexor carpi radialis (FCR) distal attachment
Base of (2nd + 3rd) metacarpal
Flexor carpi radialis (FCR) Innervation
Median Nerve (C6, C7)
Flexor carpi radialis (FCR) main action
Flexes and radial deviation of the wrist
Palmaris longus proximal attachment
Medial epicondyle of humerus
