What is isolationism?
US was detached from foreign entanglements.
Why did the US adopt an approach of isolationism?
- housed people who had escaped from persecution so wanted to stay out of those nations
- US felt superior to powerful European nations
- US was different to other so wanted to remain so
- had sufficient raw materials to not need imports
