What is mercantilism?
A business enterprise that makes profit mainly through trade buying goods cheap and selling them for higher prices.

The urge to secure markets, therefore led to severe and fears battles between the trading companies. They regularly sank each other’s ships, blockaded routes and provided the rival ships from moving with supplies of goods. Trade was carried on with arms and trading post were protected through Fortification. The effort to fortify trading pasts and carry on profitable trades also led to internal conflict with rulers.
Why was Mercantilism important?
Mercantilism played the most vital part in encouraging establishment of colonies. The scramble for colonies eventually led to many wars among the European powers in the 17th and 18th century.
