Civics

Direct Democracy
Direct democracy or pure democracy is a form of democracy in which the electorate decides on policy initiatives without elected representatives as proxies.

Representative Democracy
The United States is a representative democracy. This means that our government is elected by citizens.
Monarchy
a form of government with a monarch at the head.
Oligarchy
a small group of people having control of a country, organization, or institution.
Majority

Minority

Autocracy

Communism
a theory or system of social organization based on the holding of all property in common, actual ownership being ascribed to the community as a whole or to the state.
Socialism
a theory or system of social organization that advocates the ownership and control of the means of production and distribution, capital, land, etc., by the community as a whole, usually through a centralized government.
Totalitarianism
the character or quality of an autocratic or authoritarian individual, group, or government:

Head of Government
The President is both the head of state and head of government of the United States of America, and Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces.
Citizen Participation
Citizen Participation is the active involvement of citizens in the legislative decision-making process allowing them to contribute to decisions that may have an impact on their lives.
Voting

Legislature
a deliberative body of persons, usually elective, who are empowered to make, change, or repeal the laws of a country or state; the branch of government having the power to make laws, as distinguished from the executive and judicial branches of government.
Anarchy
a state of society without government or law.
Tyranny
arbitrary or unrestrained exercise of power; despotic abuse of authority.
Veto
the power or right vested in one branch of a government to cancel or postpone the decisions, enactments, etc., of another branch, especially the right of a president, governor, or other chief executive to reject bills passed by the legislature.

Constitution
the system of fundamental principles according to which a nation, state, corporation, or the like, is governed.
Figurehead
