What is Rational Ideology?
Where your conscience helps to guide you through feelings of anxiety, or guilty to achieve social control through following laws.
-> your conscience decides what is right and wrong
How does Rational Ideology link with the Psychodynamic Theory?
The ID, EGO AND SUPEREGO
-> Form parts of your conscience
The ID breaches social control, the ego is responsible for feelings of guilt and anxiety and the superego follows social control by acting on morals
What are Traditions?
Each Tradition has its own set of norms and values which are followed, in order to achieve social control
Where do traditions generally occur?
In families where the family act as a big influence on teaching individuals norms of how to behave within that group
How are traditions handled within families, in order to achieve social control?
Parents do not offend (their values/norms disagree with criminality) -> sets a tradition within that group = less likely to commit crime due to being socially controlled
However,
Parents offend (their values/norms agree with criminality) -> sets tradition within that group = more likely to commit crime, opposing the concept of social control
How are Traditions linked to Social Learning Theory?
Observing + Imitating + Internalising a role models behaviour - more likely to occur if they have similar characteristics, such as gender or views on social control
What is Internalisation of Social Rules and Morality?
