Zhu Sha An Shen Wan

“Cinnabar pill to calm spirit”

A

Ingredients:
Zhu Sha (15g), Huang Lian (18g), Sheng Di (7.5g), Dang Gui (7.5g), Zhi Gan Cao (16.5g)
Functions:
Sedates the HT, calms the shen, drains fire, nourishes the yin.
Indication:
Vigorous HT fire and HT yin and blood deficiency syndrome
Insomnia, excessive dreams, frightening and continuous palpitation, a sensation of irritability and heat in the chest.
Tongue: red tongue
Pulse: thin, rapid
Clinical applications:
1. Treats excessive HT fire injuring the blood & yin.
2. Used for common neurasthenia, depression, anxiety neurosis, poor memory, panic attack, and insomnia with excess dreams.
C/C:
Yin xu and SP xu, should not be taken for long time.

Ci Zhu Wan

“Magnetite and cinnabar pill”

A

Ingredients:
Ci Shi (60g), Zhu Sha (30g), Shen Qu (120g)
Functions:
Heavily sedates & calms the shen, weighs down the yang, nourishes the yin, improves the vision.
Indications:
HT & KD disharmony syndrome
Palpitations, insomnia, tinnitus and diminished acuity of hearing & vision, also for seizures or epilepsy.
Tongue:

Clinical applications:
1. Treats KD essence deficiency and excessive HT yang ascendant.
2. Currently used for optic nerve atrophy, neural deafness, tinnitus, visual hallucination associated with schizophrenia.
Modifications:
For seizure and epilepsy with abundant mucus -> add Dan Nan Xing, Ban Xia, Tian Zhu Huang
C/C:
SP xu, should not be taken for long time.
