Baseboard
A finished board covering the wall where it meets the floor
Batt insulation
Blanket insulation cut into short lengths to make it easy to handle and apply
Beam
A horizontal steel or wooden structure member used to support floor joists
Bearing wall
A wall that supports its weight plus the vertical load above it
Conduit
A Raceway of circular cross section used to carry electrical conductors other than tubing
Demolition
Refers to the destroying or knocking down of a structure or a portion of a structure
Diffuser
An air register transferring forced air from a duct to a room or that part of the luminaire that broadens spreads or diffuses the light output
Drywall
A system of interior wall and ceiling finish using sheets of gypsum board
Duct
Around or rectangular pipe, tube, or Channel used for carrying air
Fire stop
Any blocking of air passages to prevent the spread of fire in a building. A block of wood closing off the space between studs
Flashing
Sheet metal used in roof and wall construction to keep out water
Footing
The spread portion at the base of a foundation wall or column that distributes the weight over a large area
Foundation
The part of the building usually below ground on which the building rests
Furring strips
Narrow strips of wood fast into a wall or ceiling to serve as a leveling device and to provide a base to which finishing materials can be fastened
Header
A joist or joists placed at the ends of an opening in a wall and used to support side members over a window or door opening
HVAC
Stands for heating ventilation and air cooling systems in a building
Jamb
The main members of a window or door frame forming the sides and top
Joists
The framing members that directly support the floor
Outlet
A point in the electrical wiring system where the current is drawn to supply luminaire or appliance
Plate
The top or bottom horizontal structure member of a frame wall
Plenum
An air compartment maintained under pressure connected to one or more distributing or return ducts
Receptacle
A contact device installed at the outlet for the connection of a single attachment plug
Renovation
Reconstruction or remodeling of an existing building to improve its safety or aesthetics
