What is the denominator?
The bottom number of the fraction.
What is the numerator?
The top number of the fraction.
What is the name of the number on top?
Numerator.
What is the name of the number on the bottom?
Denominator.
When adding fractions with do you do if the denominator number is already the same?
Add the top numerators together and done!
What if the denominator is not the same?
You need to multiply or divide one or both of the fractions. This is called equivalent fractions.
Multiplying fractions:
Numerator x Numerator
Denominator x Denominator
Then simplify
2 x 4 = 2 x 4, 3 x 2 = 8 < Answer!

Dividing fractions is the same as multiplying fractions but you flip the last fraction then multiply.
Numerator x Numerator
Denominator x Denominator
Then simplify
2 / 4 = 2 x 2 = 2 x 2, 3 x 4 = 4
