freedom from want Flashcards

1
Q

• Should freedom from want be considered a basic human right? If so, how would one guarantee that right? Refer to McGarvey

A

For this to be a basic right and have it guaranteed, rehabilitation needs to be easily accessible to everyone so people can exercise this willpower to the full extent. This includes therapy, rehab centers and so on. Thus, like anything, willpower is crucial to overcome one’s own want.

Another method is education.

Q

What Market does Neolib support? what gov structure?

A

Free Market: Neoliberalism promotes the idea of a free market economy where supply and demand determine prices and allocation of resources. It argues that market forces, if left unhindered, lead to efficient outcomes and economic prosperity.

Limited Government Intervention: Neoliberalism advocates for minimal government interference in the economy. This means reducing regulations, lowering taxes, and privatizing state-owned enterprises. The belief is that government intervention often distorts market mechanisms and hampers economic growth.

Individual Freedom: Neoliberalism emphasizes individual freedom and choice. It posits that individuals should be free to make their own economic decisions, including choices related to employment, consumption, and investment.

Deregulation: Neoliberal policies often involve reducing or eliminating regulations that govern businesses and markets. Supporters argue that this encourages entrepreneurship and innovation.

Globalization: Neoliberalism is associated with the globalization of trade and finance. Advocates argue that free trade between nations and the free flow of capital across borders can lead to increased economic growth and prosperity.

Austerity Measures: During times of economic crisis, neoliberal policies might advocate for austerity measures,

• Right
• Ignored the plights of lower classes and popular opposition to reforms
• Riots and protest being ignored
• If you are poor on unfortunate Saiety will blame you
• The rich are praised

• Sold off state property and assets once used to assist the less fortunate
• Justified it with “just deserts” and tone-deaf conception of the failures of the lower orders

agency with collective action
• The view that there is room for accountability in any social critique
