Describe passé composé tense:
It looks back on events from the perspective of the present.
J’ai mangé du pain- I’ve done it, it’s over now
Describe the imparfait:
It views the situation without reference to the start or end, so puts us in the midst of an event as it unfolds, we are brought back to the past
When to use passé composé
Completed actions.
Actions that occur a specific number of times
When to use imparfait:
Situations with uncounted events or ongoing scenarios
Habitual actions
Often used for thoughts
