Fri Quize Flashcards
(6 cards)
Meiosis
one diploid cell divides and for haploid reproductive cells ( gametes) (DDH)
Homologous chromosomes
pair of chromosomes that have genes for the same traits arranged in the same order
Diploid
cells that have pairs of chromosomes , one from each parent . The body, or somatic, cells of an organism (all cells other than gametes) are diploid.
Haploid
-cells that have only one chromosome from each pair. Haploid cells contain half the number of chromosomes as diploid cells.
The gametes of an organism are haploid.
Crossing Over
a process in which homologous chromosomes pair up and exchange genetic material. Crossing over occur during the prophase I stage of meiosis.
Independent Assortment
the way homologous chromosomes line up on either side of the equator during Metaphase I. This helps to give more genetic variation.
