1
Q

what are the boundaries of the anterior triangle of the neck?

A
  • Medially = line from mandible to sternal notch
  • Laterally = Sternocleidomastoid
  • Superiorly = mandible
2
Q

What are the contents of the anterior triangle?

A

Supra Hyoid Muscles :

  • Digastric
  • Stylohyoid
  • Mylohyoid
  • genio hyoid

Infra hyoid muscles :

  • Sterno Hyoid
  • Omo Hyoid
  • Sterno Thyroid
  • Thyro hyoid

Vessels:

  • common carotid (bifurcation into external and internal)
  • Internal Jugular Vein

Nerves:

  • Facial
  • glossopharyngeal
  • vagus
  • accessory
  • hypoglossal
3
Q

what is the general function of the infrahyoid muscles?

A

pulls the hyoid bone downards

4
Q

What is the nerve supply of the infrahyoid muscles?

A

Ansa Cervicalis , Anterior rami of C1 - C3 :

  • Sternohyoid
  • Sternothyroid
  • Omo hyoid

Anterior Ramus of C1 carried on the hypoglossal nerve:
- Thyrohyoid

5
Q

What is the function of digastric muscle?

A

Opens jaw when masseter and temporalis are relaxed

6
Q

What is the origin of digastric?

A
Anterior = digastric fossa on lower mandible
Posterior = Mastoid notch on mastoid process
7
Q

What is the nerve supply of digastric?

A
Anterior = Trigeminal V3 (mandibular branch)
Posterior = Facial
8
Q

describe the branched of the trigeminal nerve

A

V1 :
-Opthalmic branch

V2:
-Maxillary branch ——-> Superior Alveolar

V3:
- Mandibular branch ———-> Lingual and Inferior Alveolar

9
Q

What is the innervation of stylohyoid?

A

Facial (cervical branch)

10
Q

what is the innervation of Mylohyoid?

A

Trigeminal - V3 (mandibular branch —> inferior alveolar —>Mylohyoid nerve )

11
Q

what is the innervation of geniohyoid?

A

C1 - anterior ramus (carried on hypoglossal nerve)

12
Q

what are the contents of the carotid sheath?

A
  • Common carotid
  • Internal Jugular
  • Vagus nerve
  • Last 4 cranial nerves = (glossopharyngeal, vagus, accessory, hypoglossal)
