Carpel or ovary number/arrangement
Simple fruit type
Arise from one single ovary and can be individual carpel or multiple fused
Aggregate Fruits
Ranunculaceae
Formed from single flower with multiple carpels not fused ex. Raspberries
Multiple Fruits
Formed from an inflorescence of flowers ex. Pineapple
Accessory Fruits
Formed not only from ovary tissue but from floral tissue as well. Hypanthium
Ex. Strawberry, Apples
Dehiscent
Opens at maturity
Indehiscent
Closed at maturity
Follicle
Single locule, many seeds, one line of dehiscence
Magnolia
Legumes
Single locule, two lines of dehiscence
Peanuts
Siliques
Two locule, separate at maturity with a partition between them

Multiple locules, multiple methods of dehiscence

Achene
One seeded fruit, seed attached at just on point within fruit, fruit wall separate form seed

An inner layer, close to seeds, often part covering seed like on a peach

The middle layer the fleshy fruit part

An outer layer, often forming skin

Kind of berry with a thickened exocarp

Another modified berry with leathery exocarp

Similar to berry but endocarp is hardened

Inferior ovary, fleshy portion and floral parts like the receptacle

The ovary is usually inferior, unlike true berries
Avocado, banana, blueberries.
