What are bite wing films used for?
Used for detecting Interproximal decay periodontal bone loss, recurrent decay under restoration, and the fit of metallic restorations
What do the bite wings show?
Maxillary and mandibular teeth in occlusion, coronal 2/3’s of opposing maxillary and mandibular teeth and their adjacent tissue
What is periapical used for?
to diagnose pathological condition of the root and bone as well as to formation and eruption
Radiolucent
You can see the dark areas
Radiopaque
White/greyish areas
Like teeth
How many X-Ray films are used ?
14 periapicals
Required structure MX central incisors
Right and left
Required structure MX cuspids

Begin with maxillary central incisors first
When working on either arch for X-Rays,how will you position your patient
Have the either arch be parallel to the floor
Where are the dot/ pimple located?
They are always located on the incisial and occlusal edge
How far should the edge of the film be extended ?
Evenly 1/8 to 1/4 inch the occlusal or incisal edge
How are anterior teeth radiographed?
Vertical
How are bite wings radiographed
Horizontal
Periapical
Around the whole tooth
2-3mm of the periapical bone
