anachronism
a person/object that is out of place in its time period and belongs in a different era
ex. trip to movie theater in a novel set in Medieval England
often used to help audience relate to the piece
analogy
comparison, typically in the from “x is to y”, or either a simile or a metaphor
extended analogy
analogy that continues beyond a single comparison, lasting for several sentences or even a paragraph
anaphora
repetition of a word or phrase at the beginning of a series of consecutive sentences/statements
ex. We shall …. we shall … we shall …

a brief story

use of parallel structure to set opposing ideas in contrast to one another
