Q

Mechanism of functional GI disorders

A
  • Central Neuronal Sensitization: increased spontaneous firing and decreased threshold for firing.
  • Sensitization of sensory neurons: increased afferent signaling from the intestines.
  • Heightened HPA axis: corticotropin releasing factor alters motility and pain thresholds
