brake said that the hippies thought they were resisting, they weren’t changing anything that they just thought they were. they went and did drugs to fit in (sense of belonging- Eisenstadt) they went and hung out with their friends for a (right of passage- Parsons)

Hebdige said that they thought the world was a very boring unimaginable place, and that the government was bringing the world down so they dressed up to shock the world. they did this because of (status frustration- Cohen)
