Parasites can be:
Protozoa (single celled) - e.g. Plasmodium falciparum
Helminths (worms, multicellular) - e.g. Tapeworms

Fungi can be:
Yeasts (single celled) - eg. Candida Albicans
Moulds (multi-celled) - eg. Aspergillus, Dermatophytes(athletes foot)
Plasmodium Falciparum
Protozoa (parasite) - Female anopheles mosquito vector
Hepatomegaly, splenomegaly (RBC destruction, jaundice)
Travel history - malaria belt
Investigations = Blood films (x3) - LFTs Treatment = Quinine & Doxycycline
Plasmodium Vivax
Plasmodium Ovale
G6PDH test before administering CHLOROQUININE
Latent - incubation period like a year or something
Candida Albicans
Opportunistic infection - commensal of Vagina & Mouth
Treatment: Nystatin Clotrimazole IV fluconazole SYSTEMIC = Amphotericin B
Aspergillius
Mould (fungi)
Acute infection of the lungs - opportunistic infection
Treatment = Amphotericin B (targets chitin in fungal cell wall)
