What is a bit?
smallest unit of data
is either a 1 or a 0
short for a binary digit
What is a nibble?
name given to a group of 4 bits
What is a byte?
8 bits are known as a byte
Each character e.g. letter, number, special character is represented by 8 bits
What is a kilobyte?
A kilobyte is 1024 bytes
Kilobyte is often abbreviated to KB
What is a megabyte?
A megabyte is 1024 kilobytes
Megabyte is often abbreviated to Mb
What is a gigabyte?
A gigabyte is 1024 megabytes
Gigabyte is often abbreviated to Gb
What is a terabyte?
A terabyte is 1024 gigabytes
Terabyte is often abbreviated to Tb
What does absolute cell reference mean
When a formula is copied to other cells, part of the cell reference does not change as the formula is modified
What is relative cell reference
Changes a formula’s cell reference to refer to the next cell(s) when the formula is copied down a column or across a row
What does encryption mean
Encryption uses special software to encode or scramble data before it is transmitted
This makes the data unreadable or meaningless if intercepted
What is cloud computing
Cloud computing is using the internet to provide services
Cloud computing is storing and using software/services online
Advantages of online training
Employees can learn at a time that is convenient and work at their own place
No need to spend time and money travelling to training venues
Virtual reality simulations offer a highly interactive and realistic form of training
Disadvantages of online training
Employees can feel isolated by the lack of human contact
A poor internet connection can disrupt learning
