A: Men commit more recorded crime. About 80% of convicted offenders in the UK are male.
What is ‘hegemonic masculinity’?
A: The dominant male identity – being tough, dominant, aggressive, anti-authority
➡️ When men can’t achieve this through work or status, they may turn to crime (e.g. violence, theft, gangs)
Alder- What is the Liberation Thesis?
A: The idea that as women become more liberated from patriarchy (e.g. through feminism), they are increasingly engaging in masculine forms of crime, especially violent and white-collar crime.
