General Flashcards
(12 cards)
What happens during days 2-4?
The zygote undergoes cleavage (mitotic divisions) and passes down the oviduct towards the uterus
What is embryology?
The study of the development processes and the molecular, cellular and structural factors contributing to the formation of an organism
What happens during days 5-6?
The MORULA loses it’s shell (the zona pelucida) so fluid enters between the cells
The blastocyst is formed, containing a fluid filled cavity
What happens on day 7?
The blastocyst implants into the endometrium of the uterine wall
What’s the blastocyst split into?
The shell= trophoblast
Inner= embryo blast
What does the embryo blast split into?
Epiblast and hypoblast
What do the epiblast and hypoblast form?
Bilaminar disc
What does the trophoblast split into?
Cytotrophoblast and syncytiotrophoblast
What happens towards the end of the second week?
Spaces develop in the extraembryonic mesoderm
(Separates amnion and gaols sac from the trophoblast
The spaces will become the CHORIONIC CAVITY
What is the chorionic cavity?
Space in the extraembryonic mesoderm
What are the chorionic villi made of?
Cytotrophoblast
What does the prechordal plate develop from?
A thickening of the hypoblast
