Tiredness
tiredness especially in the morning—SQX
Heart Qi Xu
Lung Qi Xu
Stomach Qi Xu
General sign of Qi Xu—The functions of Qi include transforming and transporting. If Qi is deficient then all functions of the organs will suffer.
Heart—Blood is the mother of Qi and Qi is the commander of blood. If Qi is deficient the Heart’s function of controlling the circulation of Blood will suffer and there will be tiredness.
Lung govern Qi.
Stomach—Stomach is the root of Post-Heaven Qi and the beginning stage in the production of Qi from food. Therefore, if the Stomach is deficient all other organs will suffer. Consequently, tiredness is the key symptom of Stomach Qi Deficiency.
Shortness of breath on exertion
Heart Qi Xu
Heart Yang Xu
Due to weak Gathering (Zong Qi) Impairing Respiration
Pale Face
General sign of Qi Xu—Qi is responsible for moving Blood, and when it is weak, Blood does not reach the face effectively.
Spontaneous sweating
Heart Qi Xu
Heart Yang Xu
Lung Qi Xu
Daytime sweating is called ‘evaporation from the muscles’. Yang fluids are lost due to Defensive Qi (Wei Qi) not “holding in” fluids.
Lassitude
Heart Qi Xu
Due to deficient Qi failing to transform and transport properly, thereby not sufficiently nourishing all the organs of the body
Feeling cold
Heart Yang Xu
Feeling of cold and cold hands are
due to Heart Yang not transporting Blood to extremities to warm them.
Spiritual fatigue
Heart Yang Xu
The Heart houses the Shen and the four other spirits; hun, po, zhi, yi. Qi is part of Yang. If Heart Qi is deficient, the Shen will be deficient and a deficient Shen results in a lack of Spirit and vitality.
Feeling cold
Heart Yang Xu
Feeling of cold and cold hands are
due to Heart Yang not transporting Blood to extremities to warm them
Poor memory
Heart Blood Xu
Heart Yin Xu
One function of Shen is Memory—the capacity to memorise data and remember past events. The The Heart also controls the mental faculties and if Heart-Blood is deficient thinking will be dull and the memory poor.
The Heart houses the Shen and governs Blood, if Blood is deficient the Heart suffers as the Shen is deprived of its place of Residence. A disturbed Shen results in forgetfulness and a poor memory.
Anxiety—HBX, HYX
Feeling uneasy— HBX
Mental restlessness—HYX, HFB— pronounced
Heart Blood Xu
Heart Yin Xu
The Shen is responsible for emotions.
Shen deprived of residence due to blood xu or Empty Heat agitates the Ethereal Soul (Hun) which is not rooted because the Yin is deficient, so that it ‘comes and goes’ too much causing anxiety, insomnia, mental restlessness and irritability
Easily startled
Heart Blood Xu
Heart Yin Xu
The Heart houses the Shen and governs Blood, if Blood is deficient the Heart suffers as the Shen is deprived of its place of Residence. A disturbed Shen results in a person being easily startled.
dizziness
Heart Blood Xu
Dizziness is a general symptom of Blood deficiency and is caused by Blood not nourishing the brain.
pale lips
Heart Blood Xu
Due to Blood deficiency
Qi is responsible for moving Blood, and when it is weak, Blood does not reach the face effectively.
Feeling of heat (hot and
bothered)
Malar flush
Feeling of heat in the afternoon and evening
Dry mouth and throat
5-palm heart
Heart Yin Xu
Due to Empty Heat which arises
from long-standing Yin Deficiency.
Lung Yin Xu
Dry cough, throat and mouth are due to deficient Body Fluids not moistening the mouth and throat.
Dream-disturbed sleep
Heart Yin Xu —Blood deprives the Shen of its place of residence
Heart Fire Blazing—Fire disturbs the Shen
Phlegm-Fire Harassing the Heart—Phlegm/Fire disturbs the Shen
One function of the shen is sleep and the capacity to sleep well. The Shen houses the other spirits including the Hun (ethereal soul), if Shen is deprived of it’s place of residence the Ethereal soul and mind will float and the person will dream a lot.
Night sweats
Heart Yin Xu
Lung Yin Xu
Night sweating is due to Yin being deficient and failing to hold Defensive Qi (Wei Qi) in the body at night (Defensive Qi retires into the Yin at night), so that the precious Yin nutritive essences come out with the sweat.
Dry mouth and throat
Lung Dryness
Symptoms are due to dryness of Lungs. Body Fluids are deficient but the Yin is not yet deficient.
Dry skin
Lung Dryness
Lungs Dominate skin and hair.
Symptoms are due to dryness of Lungs. Body Fluids are deficient but the Yin is not yet deficient.
muzzy feeling in the head
Invasion of the Lung by Wind-Damp
Dampness Hindering the Transformation and Transportation of Qi.
Mechanism:
Dampness obstructs the Middle Jiao, preventing the proper movement of Qi and Fluids
Damp may block the descending function of Stomach Qi
It may also prevent the Clear Yang (refined, uplifting Qi extracted by the Spleen) from rising to the head
Since the Stomach and Spleen channels both travel upwards to the head, this disruption may lead to:
A muzzy or heavy sensation in the head
stuffiness of the chest
Damp-Phlegm Obstructing the Lung
Damp hindering the transformation and transportation function of Qi.
Phlegm in the chest
feeling ‘clogged up’, a feeling of heaviness
Damp-Phlegm Obstructing the Lung
Damp hindering the transformation and transportation function of Qi
and Damp obstructing the muscles
bloating of the abdomen.
Damp-Phlegm Obstructing the Lung
Damp hindering the transformation and transportation function of Qi
mucus in the stools
Damp hindering the transformation and transportation function of Qi.
Damp is turbid, heavy and drains downwards—hence mucis in stools
poor appetite, loose stools
Invasion of the Lung by Wind-Damp
Damp hindering the transformation and transportation function of Qi Spleen Qi failing to t&t
