Q

Tiredness

tiredness especially in the morning—SQX

A

Heart Qi Xu
Lung Qi Xu
Stomach Qi Xu

General sign of Qi Xu—The functions of Qi include transforming and transporting. If Qi is deficient then all functions of the organs will suffer.
Heart—Blood is the mother of Qi and Qi is the commander of blood. If Qi is deficient the Heart’s function of controlling the circulation of Blood will suffer and there will be tiredness.
Lung govern Qi.
Stomach—Stomach is the root of Post-Heaven Qi and the beginning stage in the production of Qi from food. Therefore, if the Stomach is deficient all other organs will suffer. Consequently, tiredness is the key symptom of Stomach Qi Deficiency.

Q

Spiritual fatigue

A

Heart Yang Xu
The Heart houses the Shen and the four other spirits; hun, po, zhi, yi. Qi is part of Yang. If Heart Qi is deficient, the Shen will be deficient and a deficient Shen results in a lack of Spirit and vitality.

Q

Poor memory

A

Heart Blood Xu
Heart Yin Xu
One function of Shen is Memory—the capacity to memorise data and remember past events. The The Heart also controls the mental faculties and if Heart-Blood is deficient thinking will be dull and the memory poor.
The Heart houses the Shen and governs Blood, if Blood is deficient the Heart suffers as the Shen is deprived of its place of Residence. A disturbed Shen results in forgetfulness and a poor memory.

Q

Anxiety—HBX, HYX

Feeling uneasy— HBX

Mental restlessness—HYX, HFB— pronounced

A

Heart Blood Xu
Heart Yin Xu

The Shen is responsible for emotions.
Shen deprived of residence due to blood xu or Empty Heat agitates the Ethereal Soul (Hun) which is not rooted because the Yin is deficient, so that it ‘comes and goes’ too much causing anxiety, insomnia, mental restlessness and irritability

Q

Dream-disturbed sleep

A

Heart Yin Xu —Blood deprives the Shen of its place of residence
Heart Fire Blazing—Fire disturbs the Shen
Phlegm-Fire Harassing the Heart—Phlegm/Fire disturbs the Shen

One function of the shen is sleep and the capacity to sleep well. The Shen houses the other spirits including the Hun (ethereal soul), if Shen is deprived of it’s place of residence the Ethereal soul and mind will float and the person will dream a lot.

Q

Night sweats

A

Heart Yin Xu
Lung Yin Xu
Night sweating is due to Yin being deficient and failing to hold Defensive Qi (Wei Qi) in the body at night (Defensive Qi retires into the Yin at night), so that the precious Yin nutritive essences come out with the sweat.

17
Q

Dry mouth and throat

A

Lung Dryness

Symptoms are due to dryness of Lungs. Body Fluids are deficient but the Yin is not yet deficient.

18
Q

Dry skin

A

Lung Dryness

Lungs Dominate skin and hair.
Symptoms are due to dryness of Lungs. Body Fluids are deficient but the Yin is not yet deficient.

19
Q

muzzy feeling in the head

A

Invasion of the Lung by Wind-Damp

Dampness Hindering the Transformation and Transportation of Qi.

Mechanism:
Dampness obstructs the Middle Jiao, preventing the proper movement of Qi and Fluids
Damp may block the descending function of Stomach Qi
It may also prevent the Clear Yang (refined, uplifting Qi extracted by the Spleen) from rising to the head
Since the Stomach and Spleen channels both travel upwards to the head, this disruption may lead to:
A muzzy or heavy sensation in the head

20
Q

stuffiness of the chest

A

Damp-Phlegm Obstructing the Lung

Damp hindering the transformation and transportation function of Qi.

Phlegm in the chest

21
Q

feeling ‘clogged up’, a feeling of heaviness

A

Damp-Phlegm Obstructing the Lung

Damp hindering the transformation and transportation function of Qi
and Damp obstructing the muscles

22
Q

bloating of the abdomen.

A

Damp-Phlegm Obstructing the Lung

Damp hindering the transformation and transportation function of Qi

23
Q

mucus in the stools

A

Damp hindering the transformation and transportation function of Qi.

Damp is turbid, heavy and drains downwards—hence mucis in stools

24
Q

poor appetite, loose stools

A

Invasion of the Lung by Wind-Damp

Damp hindering the transformation and transportation function of Qi Spleen Qi failing to t&t

25
Thirst
Phlegm-Fire Harassing the Heart Symptoms of Heat/ fire, Fire dries up the body's fluids leading to thirst
26
aphasia—P/FMH incoherent speech or aphasia—PMH
Phlegm-Fire Harassing the Heart—Heart opens in the tongue, Phlegm obstructs leading to asphsia/ incoherent speech
27
Coma—P/FHH unconsciousness—PMH
Phlegm-Fire Harassing the Heart—If Phlegm combines with Fire, it may block the Heart orifices, preventing clear communication between the Shen and the physical body. This creates a "closed syndrome" — a type of loss of consciousness characterised by internal obstruction, not deficiency. Phlegm Misting the Heart— Phlegm obstructs the Heart orifices, preventing the Shen (Mind/Spirit) from expressing itself properly. This leads to clouding of the mind and loss of consciousness.
28
Dark urine or blood in urine (severe cases)
Heart Fire Blazing Small Intestine Full Heat Heart Fire radiates to Small Intestine and interferes with its function of separating fluids in the Lower Burner and burns the fluids causing scanty and dark urine and pain on urination. In severe cases of Heat, this may cause blood to extravasate resulting in blood in the urine.
29
burning pain on urination
Small Intestine Full Heat Heart Fire radiates to Small Intestine and interferes with its function of separating fluids in the Lower Burner and burns the fluids causing scanty and dark urine and pain on urination.
30
Abdominal pain
Small Intestine Full Heat
31
deafness
Small Intestine Full Heat— The SI channel, which enters the ear, may be obstructed by Fire causing deafness.
32
Weak limbs—SQX
Stomach Qi Xu Weak limbs are due to Stomach Qi failing to transport the food essences to the limbs.
33
loose stools
Stomach Qi Xu Loose stools are sue to Spleen Qi Deficiency. Damp hinders the and tranformation and transportation function of Qi. Spleen Yang— not being nourished by the Kidneys
34
Constipation with dry stools
Stomach Yin Xu Stomach Fire Stomach Phlegm-Fire Stomach is the origin of fluids. If Yin is deficient the bodies fluids will dry up leading to constipation with dry stools.
35
Sour regurgitation, nausea, vomiting soon after eating
Stomach Yin Xu Heat also obstructs descending of Stomach Qi causing epigastric pain, nausea, vomiting and sour regurgitation.
36
Mucus in stools, mental derangement, expectoration of phlegm.
Stomach Fire Stomach Phlegm-Fire
37
Stuffiness or oppression in the epigastrium and chest
Stomach Fire Stomach Phlegm-Fire
38
A feeling of heat, dry mouth
Stomach Fire Stomach Phlegm-Fire
39
Bad breath
Stomach Fire Stomach Phlegm-Fire
40
Mental restlessness
Stomach Fire Stomach Phlegm-Fire One of the functions of Shen is Mental activity (including emotions) Fire disturbs the Shen and an agitated Shen leads to Mental Restlessness.
41
Swollen, painful and bleeding gums
Stomach Fire Stomach Phlegm-Fire Heat causes blood to extravasate in the Stomach channel leading to bleeding gums. Swelling and pain in gums are due to Heat rising in the Stomach channel.
