General Flashcards
(49 cards)
What is Newton’s first law?
A stationary object will stay stationary and a moving object will keep on moving unless a resultant force acts upon it
What is Newton’s second law?
The rate at which an object accelerates is proportional to the resultant force that acts upon it, and inversely proportional to the objects mass
What is Newton’s third law?
Whenever two bodies react, the forces they exert on each other are equal and opposite
What are some uses of electrostatics?
Spray painting
Photocopiers
Crop spraying
How do you find distance on a velocity time graph?
Area under the graph
What happens if you double your speed?
Thinking distance doubles
Braking distance quadruples
What is terminal velocity?
When the resultant force acting on a falling object is zero it will travel at a constant velocity
What is the human hearing range?
20Hz -> 20,000 Hz
What is the law of reflection?
Angle of incidence = angle of reflection
What are the stores of energy?
Thermal
Electrostatic
Kinetic
Chemical
Nuclear
Elastic potential
Gravitational potential
Magnetic
What are the energy transfers?
Mechanical
Radiation
Electrical
Heating
What is conduction?
When vibrating particles pass on their extra kinetic energy to neighbouring particles
What is convection?
When more energetic particles move from a hotter to cooler region and transfer energy
What does conduction occur best in?
Solids
What does convection occur in?
Liquid or gas
What are the uses of nuclear fusion?
Abundent fuels
It is clean
Safe as no chain reactions
Less radioactive waste
What two things does kinetic energy rely on?
Mass
Velocity
What are wires in plugs made from?
Copper
It is a great conductor, flexible and reasonably priced
What appliances need to be earthed?
Metal cased
How does a circuit breaker work?
A strong loaded plush switch is held closed by a spring loaded iron bolt
An electromagnet can pulls this way from a switch
If there is too much current the bold pulls towards itself opening the switch
What are the advantages of a circuit breaker?
Respond quicker
More reliable
More sensitive
Can be reset
What is current?
Flow of charge of electrons
What is voltage?
The force that moves the current around the circuit
