What are the main reasons for hacking?
The main reasons for hacking include getting information, removing information, editing information, causing financial losses and changing permissions for viewing, editing and removing/creating data.
Give an example of a large scale data breach.
Sony’s PlayStation Network breach with the stealing of 70 million customer records, or Adobe System’s breach with the theft of 38 million user accounts, Target’s loss of 40 million customer data accounts.
Why should you protect your data?
To keep private information private, to protect your identity, to prevent people copying important data, and to keep others (e.g. Contacts) anonymous.
What sort of systems are targeted?
Computers, computer controlled devices.
Should you use one network for all data storage and transfer through an organisation?
No, you should use multiple.
What should you do to keep on top of cyber threats?
Keep yourself updated on the latest news on cyber threats, and keep software updated.
How are datagrams passed through the internet?
A network router attempts to send the datagram to the IP address. If it is not in the router’s IP list, it is passed to the next level: service providers. This then checks to see if the start of the IP matches that of a network router in its database. If not, the datagram is passed onto the uppermost level of the system: telecommunication organisations, connected by phone lines, allowing information to travel around the world.
