o The relationship between language and gender has been widely debated in sociolinguistics, with some theorists adamant that the English language is inherently sexist, proven by the many gender biases in linguistics that reflect outdated stereotypes of gender roles. However, others argue that english language responds to society, it does not guide society and therefore the English language itself is not inherently sexist

In conclusion, whilst there are arguments that the english has historically encoded sexist values, it is not inherently sexist. Instead, language responds to society, rather than guiding society itself: it can be challenged and changed.

o The concept of controlling and directing language change has ben a long standing argument between prescriptivists and descriptivists for decades. Prescriptivists argue that control in necessary to preserve the standard of the english language and too ensure tat any new changes are appropriate. However, descriptivists argue that trying to control the english language is an impossible task and we should instead study the change rather than prevent it .
