General Cybersecurity Terms Flashcards
(8 cards)
Risk
the likelihood that a threat will exploit a vulnerability
Vulnerability
a weakness in a system, application or process
Threat
a potential danger that might take advantage of a vulnerability
OSI Model
Open Systems Interconnection Model - a theoretical way to describe all the activities that happen on a network. 7 layers:
1. Physical
2. Data Link
3. Network
4. Transport
5. Session
6. Presentation
7. Application
Describe the functions of the OSI model layers
Mnemonic: “All People Seem To Need Data Processing”
- Physical- all the physical hardware
- Data Link - Switches and MAC addresses
- Network - Routing & IP addresses
- Transport - End to End Communication
- Session - Starts and Ends Conversations
- Presentation - Data translation and encryption
- Application - user interaction and services
What is a model
A concept or philosophy that outlines principles and ideas but does t provide detailed implementation steps
What is a framework?
A structured set of guidelines or best practices and tools for implementing a model in real world environments
