General Electrical Flashcards
(58 cards)
Do not stay in Notch 1 for more than?
5 seconds. This is to avoid burning out the resistors.
What are the 3 types of Jumper Couplings?
5 pin 415 V
- air-conditioning (K set)
- battery charging
- not connected between 4th and 5th cars.
42/44 pin 120V + 240V
Electrical heads 120V on newer trains.
What drives the camshaft on a K set to change notches 1 through to 4?
Pilot Motor
What do you call a Jumper that’s not inserted correctly?
A slack back jumper
How many AODs are there per train?
- Always with the Panto but on the other end No 2.
How do you set the Auxiliary Relay?
Pan Up button
How do you reset the Overload Relays?
Press the RESET button on the dash.
How do you reset the OCR / OVR?
Press LIGHTS ON to reset
Name the 2 1500V circuits?
Traction circuit.
Auxiliary circuit
What is the purpose of batteries?
1) Initial start
2) To close relays, contractors, and to provide emergency lighting.
3) Back up system if AOD stops or fails.
Before touching battery fuses, what safety actions must you take?
1) Pantographs lowered.
2) Reverser into Isolate.
What are the basic components of the Control Circuit?
Before The Idea Came To Me.
Battery Positive Train Control MCB Interlock Relay Control Governor Traction Interlocking Master Controller
How are line switches closed?
Air and electricity (120V)
What does the Control Circuit do?
Supplies a low tension feed of 120V DC to allow the Driver to energise the driving controls electrically.
How do you know you have Battery Positive?
Cab light or LED in speedometer.
How do you energise the Interlock Relay?
Cut in.
Reverser out of Isolate.
At what pressure does the Control Governor close?
350kPa
How do you test the Traction Interlocking works?
Press the T.I. TEST button
How do you test the Master Controller?
Release the deadman to check SAI cock is open. Make sure BP air is exhausting under driver.
How do you check all the jumper cables are connected?
Bell with Guard
Lower Pantographs and check all lowered.
Raise Pantographs and check all raised.
Which cocks must be open to make sure the Traction Motors Line Switches work?
Check the CRM and CR1 isolating cocks are open. 450kPa pressure required via the pressure reducing valve.
What is a relay, what does it do?
A relay is an electrical device that incorporates a solenoid-controlled switch to utilise current in one circuit to turn ‘on’ or ‘off’ the current in another circuit.
Which button do you press to set the Aux Relay?
Pan Up button.
Which button do you press to set the battery contactors?
The Pan Up button.
