What parameters must a energy source contain to be considered sustainable?
- renewable - naturally replenished.
- environmental impact - low pollutant / minimise greenhouse gas
- health and safety - not pose substantial health hazrds.
4.econmicly viable - cost effective over long term.
describe the types of renewable energy sources
- solar energy - Solar thermal / soalr PV
2.wind energy - on/off shore wind - hydroelectricty - dams. pumped storage
4.bioenergy - biomass / biogas - geothermal - shallow / deep systems
determine the total energy (Wh) produced by a wind turbine running of full capacity of 1 MW for a year.
8760 MWh
if the wind turbine’s total energy is 8760MWh, and produces 3000MWh per annum, determine the capacity factor of the machine.
determine the latitude point for the above example for 21st June
CF = Actual output / maximum output
ans= 34.2%
declination angle = 23.45 sin ((360/365) * (284 +n))
latitude angle = 90 - a + o
ans = 53.34
for a particular time in a day a is found to be 60 and the incident radiation is measured 1000W/m^2, B is 45.
Calculate the maximum radiation that can be obtained.
Smodule = Sincident sin(a+B)
ans=965.93 W/m^2
Find the total energy in Wh produced by a wind turbine running on a full capacity of 1MW for a month and a year
a) Emonth = 1MW× 30 × 24 =720 MWh
b) Eyear = 1MW× 365 × 24 =8760 MWh
