Who is a manager?
Someone who coordinates and oversees peoples work so that organizational goals can be accomplish.
What are the jobs of a manager? (5)
- Set objectives, for the group and decide what must be done to achieve them.
- Organize activities, by dividing work into manageable parts and assigning people to accomplish them.
- Motivation and communication, create teamwork and motivation via decisions on pay, promotions and communication.
- Measure performance, set targets and appraise performance.
- Develop people, recognize value in people and develop organizational assets.
What is efficiency?
Using minimal resources to gain expected ouput.
What is effectiveness?
The degree to which the organization achieves goals.

Give 3 types roles of management and give 3 roles for each.
Interpersonal role
1. Figurehead - perform symbolic duties.
2. Leader - direct and motivate subordinates.
3. Liaison - maintain information links, in and out
Informational roles
1. Monitor - seek and gather information
2. Disseminator - forward info to other organizations
3. Spokesperson - transmit info through speeches, reports and memos.
Decisional roles
1. Entrepreneur - initiate and identify new ideas
2. Disturbance handler - take corrective action during conflicts or crisis.
3. Resource allocator - decide and set priorities on resources, schedule, budget
4. Negotiation - represent organization during negotiation
