Genetic Tecnology Flashcards
exam (6 cards)
Define Mutation
Mutation is a change in the structure of a gene. It can create a new version of the gene that might be passed down to future generations. This change can happen by altering small parts of the DNA, or by adding, removing, or rearranging bigger sections of genes or chromosomes.
Distinguish between germline vs somatic mutation
Gametic mutations are inherrited and occur in the testes of males and the ovaries of females whereas** Somatic** mutations occur in body cells. They are not inherited but may affect the person during their lifetime
Identify at least 2 factors that cause mutations and the effects these may have on living things
Exlain discuss and evaluate benefits and risks of gene technologies
Explain the significance stem cells and how they can be used for therapeutic purposes
Outline recombinant DNA technology
