Q

What is the relationship between chromosomes, genes and alleles?

A

Chromosomes are found in the nucleus and are made up of a chemical called DNA.
Genes are short sections of DNA.
Alleles are different versions of the same gene (for example: eye colour - you inherit two alleles one from your mom and one from your dad the more dominant allele shows in your physical appearance)

Q

What are the circumstances in which dominant or recessive alleles are expressed?

A

Example a white mouse and a black mouse:
Dominant allele shows - if the white allele from the white mouse and black from the black mouse or if the white mouses second allele is black and gets passed on and white from other mouse or black + black
Recessive allele shows - white + white
