The first stage of Genocide?
Classification – Dividing people into “us” vs. “them” based on ethnicity, race, religion, or
nationality.
The second stage of Genocide?
Symbolization – Assigning symbols or labels to differentiate groups (e.g., the yellow
star for Jews in Nazi Germany).
The third stage of Genocide?
Dehumanization – The targeted group is compared to animals, vermin, or diseases to
strip away their humanity.
The fourth stage of Genocide?
Organization – Genocide is always planned, often by the government, military, or
extremist groups.
The fifth stage of Genocide?
Polarization – Propaganda is used to drive people further apart, laws may forbid social
interaction between groups.
The sixth stage of Genocide?
Preparation – Victims are identified and separated, sometimes forced into ghettos or concentration camps.
The seventh stage of Genocide?
Extermination – Mass killings begin, often justified as “cleansing” or “purification.”
The eighth stage of Genocide?
Denial – The perpetrators deny genocide ever happened, destroy evidence, or blame
the victims.
