term 1 devevelopment (22 cards)
Define the term ‘development’.
The improvement/growth of a country to improve the quality of life.
Which continent has the most developing (poor) countries?
Africa
Define inequality.
This is where different people experience different standards of living.
Why would poverty trigger conflict (war)?
People grow cash crops to earn money – crops fail and people go hungry and are poor – people
rebel against the government – government uses military to supress the people – government
buys weapons, therefore the country must export more goods – (back to the beginning)
Name 3 things you would expect to find in a developed country.
Clean, safe water; everyone is educated; no extreme poverty; government helps people; schools,
doctors and hospitals are good; good transport; range of entertainment; everyone is treated
equally; equality between men and women; % of workers in farming is low.
Name 3 things you would expect to find in a developing country.
No access to clean water; poorly educated; most people live in extreme poverty; little or no help
from the government; not enough schools/teachers, hospitals/doctors; birth rate is high; poor
transport; no male/female equality; high % in farming.

lack of education, no access to clean, safe water.

country.
What is the difference between the word ‘migrant’ and ‘refugee’?
Migrant is a person who moves somewhere else, usually to find work or a
better life. Refugee is a person who has been forced to flee from danger.
Give 2 push factors and 2 pull factors.
Push – war, famine, poor education, unemployment, crime …
Pull – jobs, family, stable government, good education, good healthcare …
