11
Q

What happens at divergent plate boundaries

A

Magma from the mantle rises up to make a new crust the movement of the plates over the mantle can cause earthquake rising magma can also create shield volcanoes

13
Q

What happens at conservative plate boundaries

A

As the plates try to move direction occurs and plates become stuck. Pressure builds up and when this is realised it creates a huge amount of energy

16
Q

Characteristics of basilica lava

A

Hight temps low silica watery moves further takes linger to cool

17
Q

Characteristics of andesitic lava

A

Lower temp, more silica, thicker/runnier,travels little and cools quickly

18
Q

Volcanic bombs

A

Large blocks of hot rock thrown from a volcano

19
Q

Volcanic gas

A

Mainly steam and carbon dioxide plus some sulphur dioxide can suffocate you

20
Q

Lahars

A

Destructive volcanic landslides or mudflow consisting of a mixture of volcanic material, mud, rock and water

21
Q

Pyroclastic flow

A

A current of hot gas and rock that flows downhill at high speeds

22
Q

Volcanos usually happen at…

A

Divergent (constructive)
And
Convergent(destructive)-subduction

Occasionally hot spots

23
Q

HAITI 2010(developing)

A

-Epicenter at port at prince the capital of Haiti
-magnitude (7)
-one of the most destructive earthquakes ever
-3 million were affected

-The pacific plate thrust under the Eurasian plate
-over 17000 were killed by drowning in the tsunami

25
HDI
human development index
26
Air circulation
refers to the movement of air, driven by temperature and pressure differences
27
Ocean currents
Oceanic currents describe the movement of water from one location to another
28
Global atmospheric circulation
Global atmospheric circulation describes the large-scale movement of air that redistributes heat and moisture around the Earth, primarily driven by the sun's uneven heating
29
Hurricane Katrina 2005
Formed in the Atlantic Ocean just above Cuba and slowly moved past the base of Florida into the gulf of America then shockingly turned upwards into New Orleans
30
What where some primary effects of hurricane kat
-over 1800 people dead as a direct result of the hurricane - Extensive damage done to the Infrastructure (homes, bridges, power grids, roads) -costal habitats were damaged -Economic loss
31
What were responses to hurricane kat
-1.7 million people were evacuated from Louisiana and -Mississippi before the storm but many weren’t able to due to poverty -33000 people were saved by the costal guard -The USA military was deployed to go help people in need -Charity’s provided food and temporary shelter -eventually Better flood defences were built
