Exploration
The action of traveling in or through an unfamiliar area in order to learn about it.
Expedition
A journey or voyage undertaken by a group of people with a particular purpose.
Compass
An instrument containing a magnetized pointer that shows he direction of magnetic north and bearings from it.
Longitude
The angular distance of a place east or west of the meridian at Greenwich, England, or west of the standard meridian of a celestial object, usually expressed in degrees and minutes.
Latitude
The angular distance of a place north or south of the earth’s equator, or of a celestial object north or south of the celestial equator, usually expressed in degrees and minutes.
Meridians
A circle of constant longitude passing through a given place on the Earth’s surface and the terrestrial poles.
Geography
The study of physical features of the Earth and its atmosphere, and of human activity as it affects and is affected by these, including the distribution of populations and resources, land use, and industries.
Climate
The weather conditions prevailing in an area in general or over a long period.
Biodiversity
The variety of life in the world or in a particular habitat or ecosystem.
Landform
A natural feature of the Earth’s surface.
Altitude
The height of an object or point in relation to sea level or ground level.
Topography
The arrangement of the natural and artificial physical features of an area.
Export
Send (goods or services) to another for sale.
Interdependence
The dependence of two or more people or things on each other.
Import
Bring (goods or services )into a country from aboard for sale.
Hidden Costs
Expense not normally included in the purchase price of an equipment or machine, such as for maintenance, supplies, training, and upgrades.
Migration
Movement of people to a new area or country in order to find work or better living conditions.
Industry
Economic activity concerned with the process of raw materials and manufactures of goods in factories.
Natural resources
Natural resources may exist as a separate entity such as fresh water, air, and as well as a living organism such as a fish, or it really may exist in an alternate form that must be processed to obtain the resource such as metal ores, rare earth metals, petroleum, and most forms of energy.
Economy
A system for allocating resources to meet people’s needs and wants. It determines how goods and services are made and exchanged.
