Desertification Definition
The spread of desert lands and land degradation across more arable land.
Where do you find Rainshadowdeserts?
On the leeward side of mountains
Define semi arid
The transition zone between deserts and grassland that receives an average rainfall of 250-500mm a year
Arable Definition
Dry, parched climate of the land
What is an oasis
An area in the desert where groundwater is close to the surface and plants can grow
What are 6 types of deserts
Hot/Dry or trade wind, Mid latitude or semi arid, Rainshadow, Coastal, monsoon and polar deserts
What’s a wadi?
A stream or river course in a valley of a desert

Land that is capable of growing crops

What are physical maps
Maps that display continents, islands, rivers, mountains and elevations, lakes, deserts, oceans, seas and sometimes ocean currents ( natural features)
What are political maps
This maps shows the countries, states, cities, and ocean bodies of the world
What’s a topographic map?
Maps that show the shape of the land, (RELIEF) meaning contour lines, spot heights, trig points and shading
What are thematic maps
The map shows physical or human features of the environment basically anything: eg. Agriculture, forestry, mining, corn fields
What’s a legend
Is the key of the map, shows symbols on the map eg. Red lines for roads
What does BOLTS stand for
Border, orientation , legend, title, scale
What are physical features on the map
Physical features can be mapped on physical world, these features include landforms and living things. There are also physical environments, these include; rainforests, mountains, deserts and polar lands
What are cultural features
Cultural or ‘human’ features occur when people have changed their surroundings, these include places like Sydney or New York. It also includes agriculture lands and industrial area. These features can be mapped on political or thematic maps.
What are the 4 scales
Written, Linear, Representive fraction, ratios

Cylindrical, conical, azimuthal, interrupted,
What are cylindrical map projections
Projects the surface of the globe into a cylinder, just touches outer edge of the globe. Resulting projection- rectangle
What are conical map projections
Project globe into a cone, just touches the outside edges of the globe. Resulting projection - little bigger than a semi circle
What are azimuthal map projection
Projects the surface of a globe into a flat surface, resulting projection - circle

Resulting projection, weird pattern - sort of triangular
