what is a biome
a biome is a very large ecosystem made up of specific vegetation and associated fauna.
what is an ecosystem
an ecosystem is a community of organisms that interact with each other and their non-living environment.
what are biotic factors?
biotic factors are all living organisms within an ecosystem. These may be plants, animals, fungi and any other living things.
What are abiotic factors?
abiotic factors are all of the non-living things in an ecosystem including: fire, water, air, wind, ice, temperature and sunlight.
what is a crop yield?
crop yield is the amount of a crop harvested per unit of land. It depends on soil, weather and farming.
What is food security?
food security means having reliable access to enough safe and nutrituious food to meet dietary needs.
What is a net importer?
a net iimproter is a country or entity that buys more goods from other countries than it sells.
What is a net exporter?
a net exporter is a counrty or entity that sells more goods to other coutnries than it buys.
list four different types of aquatic biomes.
estuary, wetland, coral reef and freshwater lakes.
list four different ypes of terrestrial biomes.
desert, forest, grassland and tundra.
list four ways human activities have altered biomes.
deforestation, pollution, urbanization, climate change, overfishing & hunting.
how has deforestation altered biomes?
clearing forest for agriculture, urban expansion and logging reduces biodiversity and disrupts ecosystems.
How has pollution altered the worlds biomes?
industrial waste, pesticides and plastic pollution contaminate soil and air harming wildlife and plantlife.
How does urbanization alter the worlds biomes?
expanding cities replace natural abitats - altering local climates.
How does climate change alter the worlds biomes?
temperature shifts, melting ice, sea levels rising, extreme weather, unpredictable precipitaiton.
How does overfishing and hunting alter the worlds biomes?
unsustainable fishing and hunting practices deplete species population.
what are four problems related to world population growth?
resource depletion, environmental impact, urban overcrowding and economic strain.
Why is resource depletion associated with world population?
As the population grows, demand for essentials like food, water, and energy increases. Overconsumption can strain natural resources, leading to shortages and environmental degradation.
