The study of the earth
Charles Lyell

Henry morris

Natural resources
Any raw material from the natural environment that we use or can use
Deep time view
The idea of the ancient earth
Light years
The distance light travels in one year which is about 6,000,000,000,000 miles or 9,500,000,000,000 km
Uniformitarianism
The belief that earths forming processes are natural have always been the same and have always happened at the same gradual rate
Plate tectonics theory
The therory that describes how and why tectonic plates moved in the past and are moving today
Seismic waves
The sound waves that come from earthquakes that you can feel but not hear
Biological natural resources
Resources that come from living thing
Non-biological natural resources
Resources that come from nonliving things
Renewable resources
Resources that have an unlimited supply or can be easily replenish
Nonrenewable resources
Natural resources that can’t be replenished and so is simply used up
Sustainable yield
Using resources at a rate that allows them to replenish
Crust
Earths solid relatively low density outer most layer of rock that lies under the loose surface materials in the ocean
Core
The dense extremely hot region of the earths interior consisting of two parts the liquid outer core and solid inner core
Mantle
The hot plastic rock that fills the earth’s interior between the crust and the core
Lithosphere
The combination of the upper mantle and the crust
Moho
The boundary between the earths crust and its mantle named after Mohorovičić
Resource management
Efforts to oversee and wisely control the use of natural resources
Habitability zone
The region around the sun which allows life on planets to survive
