  • Take med first thing in the morning with 6-8 oz of water (on empty stomach or at least 30 minutes before food or other medications) & remain upright for 30 minutes afterward * Headache, constipation, diarrhea, erosive esophagitis, bone pain, osteonecrosis of the jaw (ONJ), atypical femur fracture.

Bisphosphate Derivatives
Bisphosphate derivatives include: etidronate (Didronel), ibandronate (Boniva), risedronate (Actonel), and zoledronic acid infusion (Zometa, Reclast). All carry the same warnings for ONJ and atypical femur fractures. Therapy needs to be evaluated after 5 years of use for efficacy versus safety.
