What was the Versailles?
Treaty to punish Germany of WW1.
What did Stressemenn do to help recover Germany from post war problems of the Wiemar Republic?
Changed currency (hyper-inflation) from marks to rentenmark. Restart reperation payments to help allies in debt. Join league of nations so Germany would look equal.
What is a republic?
A country with no monarchy.
What is a Putsch?
An attempt to overthrow the government for example Hitlers Munich putsch.
What was Mein Kampf?
A book called my struggle this was about Hitlers views.
What was the problems that faced the Wiemar Republic?
German people elected new parliament the Riechstag January 1919. Germany had to pay reperations (£6.6 million) over time. 1923 Germany stopped paying reperations. French government sent troops at Ruhr to take industrial production. No money, hyper-inflation.
What is ideology?
A set of views that people believe in, in this case different views to run a country.
What is USA’s system?
USA has a system based on Democracy, free elections and capitalism.
What type of country is the USSR?
A communist country based on a state run economy with decisions based on what is good for society not individual profit. There was a 1 party state (totalitarian) so no need for any election.
What was the Yalta conference?
How to deal with Germany, dividing it into 4.
What was the Postdam conference?
How to deal with Japan, Trueman deciding to drop the atom bomb.
Why was the USSR afraid of the USA?
Because USA had produced the atom bomb which threatened many places.
Why was the USA afraid of the USSR?
Stalin was a very fierce character making 20 million of his people die in WW2.
What was the Marshall plan?
American politicians believed that communism gained ground in countries for people who were poor and struggling. The marshall plan aimed to give millions of dollars to Europe. USA hoped that if eastern Europe was lost to communism i would help the west making them stronger.
What was the Trueman Doctrine?
In 1947, president Truman made a speech, which he said that the USA would help everywhere who were trying to keep their political freedom and who felt threatened by communism.
