- Captures black people being silened and him suffering a loss of agency. This highlights how black people are controlled by the white society
- Using black bodies for their own purposes stripping away the person inside. Black culture is exploitated and ignored
- The sunken place represents systemic racism and how structures in society suppress black voices and agency while maintaining control
- Chris is reduced to a passive oberserver in his own body and often voiceless
- Jordan Peele stated “The Sunken Place means we’re marginalized. No matter how hard we scream, the system silences us.”
