Q
What are trophic feeds?
A
Also known as gut priming or minimal enteral nutrition, involves providing nutritionally insignificant volumes of breast milk or formula to premature infants. It’s a method of stimulating the development of the digestive tract without providing a substantial amount of calories.
Trophic feeding can help reduce the reliance on TPN, which is given intravenously and can have complications.
