GI Anatomy Flashcards
(22 cards)
Mucosa
Epithelium + Lamina propria + Muscularis Mucosae
Innermost layer of GI tube
Submucosa
External to Mucosal Layer- contains dense array of large blood vessels, nerve plexi, glands, and lymphatic nodules
Muscularis Externa
3rd layer- important for peristalsis
Innervated by myenteric nerve plexus (of Auerbach)
Serosa/Adventitia
4th and outer most layer of tube- squamous epithelium
Cardia
GE Junction area of stomach
Fundus
Upper portion of stomach superior to GE junction, main secretory body of stomach
Corpus
Body of stomach
Pyloris
Mucous secreting distal end of stomach w/ sphincter
Rugae or Plicae mucosae
Folds in wall of stomach that disappear upon distention.
Plicae circularis or Folds of Kerckring
Transverse-oriented folds of small intestine
Crypts of Lieberkuhn
Simple, tubular intestinal glands
Lacteal
Lymphatic vessel in center of intestinal villous lamina propria
Peyer’s Patches
Lymphatic Nodules and Groups of Nodules in Intestine that Release IgA
Sphincter of Oddi
Hepatopancreatic Sphincter
Islet of Langerhans
Endocrine Portion (2%) of Pancreas
Columns of Morgagni
Longitudinal structural folds of mucosa in large intestine near rectum
Submandibular Glands
MIXED serous and mucous salivary glands in oral cavity
Sublingual Glands
mostly MUCOUS salivary gland of oral cavity
Parotid Glands (2X)
SEROUS salivary gland of oral cavity near curve of mandible/ buccal mucosa.
Antrum
Contains pyloric glands with mucous cells and endocrine cells, i.e. G cells and D cells.
Cardiac Glands
Consists of mucous cells, which secrete mucous and pepsinogen.
Migrating Motor Complex (MMC)
Emptying of entire system every 1.5-2 hours in nonfed state- periodic sweeping of the gut.
