Neonatal jaundice management

A

<24h -> urgent admission

see within 6h if
Jaundice first appears >7days.
Neonate unwell - lethargy, fver, vomtiing, irritability.
Gest age <35w
Prolonged jaundice > 14 days.
Poor feeding/wt concerns
Pale stools, dark urine

Red flags for constipation in children

A

Appears from birth /first few weeks of life - Hirschsprungs disease

delay in meconium >48h after birth in full term baby (hirschprungs/CF)

Abdo distension + vomiting - Hirschprungs/intestinal obstruction.

Fhx Hirschrpungs

Ribbon stool pattern -anal stenosis <1yo.

Leg weakness/motor delay - spinal cord/neuro abnormality.

anal abnormal

Abnormal lumbosacral/gluteal regions.

Amber flags: Faltering growth, dev delay, cows milk protein allergy, concerns of maltreatment.

Gastroenteritis length of time

A

Diarrhoea 5-7 days. Stops within 2 weeks.
Vomiting 1-2days, stops within 3 days.

6 week old crying excessively with feeds. back arches, vomiting small amounts milk after feeds.

A

GORD
- frequent vomiting, regurgitation, feeding difficulties, refusal, crying in relation to feeds, back arching , FTT in severe cases, pneumonia chronic cough and hoarseness.
