GI drugs Flashcards
(21 cards)
Which drug has some antimicrobial properties, weak antacid, anti-secretory and antiinflammatory to the GI tract?
Bismuth subsalicylate
How does bismuth subsalicylate decrease gas production?
Binds hydrogen sulfide
MOA of cisapride? Prokinetic that works well where?
MOA - 5HT4/serotonin AGOnist –> stimulates release of ach into the enteric NS; parasympathomimetic. Good prokinetic for the LES and colon. `
MOA of cyproheptadine?
Serotonin antagonist
MOA of domperidone?
D2 antagonist
MOA of erythromycin in the GI tract?
Promotes motilin release; prokinetic
MOA of famotidine
H2 receptory antagonist
MOA of lactulose and magnesium salts??
Hyperosmotic laxatives; stimulate colon fluid and propulsive motility
MOA of maropitant? Found in the central and peripheral NS associated with _____, which is asso. with pain and stress? SE?
NK-1 receptor antagonist. Associated with substance P. Possible SE; hyptension in renal failure, may prolong the QT interval
MOA of metoclopramide? Uses?
D2 dopaminergic receptor antagonist in the CRTX and CNS; mixed 5-HGT3 antagonist and 5-HT4 agonist. Use: antiemetic and prokinetic
MOA misoprostol?
PGE analogue
MOA of octreotide? Effects of this drug?
Somatostatin analogue - somatostatin normally inhibits gastric, pancreatic and biliary secretions; prlongs GI transit time; decreased jejunal secretions
MOA of omeprazole? In an acidic environment, what happens to omeprazole? Other uses?
Inhibits the H/K ATPase; In the acidic environment, omeprazole is activated to a sulphenamide derivative that binds irreversibly at the secretory surface of the parietal cells –> inhibits transport of H ions into the stomach. Also inhibits cytochrome P-450. Decreases CSF production.
MOA of ondansetron?
5HT3/serotonin receptor ANTAgonist –> reduces the activity of the vaugs nerve which deactivates the vomiting center in the medulla oblangata.
MOA of phenothiazine (chlorpromazine)? SE?
Alpha 2 adrenergic antagonist. Hyptension
MOA of ranitidine? How does is stimulate motility?
H2 receptor antagonist. Stimulates motility by inhibiting acetylocholinesterases.
MOA of somatostatin?
Blocks gastrin secretion
MOA of simethicone?
Decreases gas bubble surface tension
MOA of sucralfate?
Stimules PG synthesis from the gastric mucosa; offers mucosal protection by binding proteins
MOA of sulfasalazine
Prostaglandin synnthestase inhibitor; antileukotriene
What is Viokase?
Pancreatic enzyme concentrage of porcine origin (EPI).
