gingival tumors and perio abscesses Flashcards
(35 cards)
char. of gingival abscesses
localized painful and rapidly expanding
usually just in marginal of papillary gingiva
gingival abscess caused by…
foreign bodies embedded in gingiva
perio abscess char.
localized along lateral root b/c drainage through pocket is impaired esp by calc.
causes of perio abscess
trauma/ root fracture, endo perforation, post SRP/surgical therapy, from a chronic lesion or can be caused by antibiotics (super-infection)
complications of abscess
tooth loss, systemic infections (dissemination through tissues druring therapy or through bacteremia)
differential diagnosis for perio abscess
periapical abscess vertical root fractures endo-perio abscess osteomyelitis tumors
traits of focal fibrous hyperplasia
cause:irritation
sessile , sooth surface cell poor hyperplastic collagenous tissue with possible hyperkeratinization
differential diag. of focal fibrous hyperplasia
giant cell fibroma
reactive processes of soft tissue
focal fibrous hyperplasia
calcified fibroblastic granuloma
pyogenic granuloma
peripheral giant cell granuloma
reactive processes of hard tissue
periapical cemental dysplasia
benign neoplasms of perio soft tissues
hemangioma
nevus
papilloma (inc. verruca vulgaris)
peripheral odontogenic tumors
benign neoplasms of hard tissues
ameloblastoma
squamous odontogenic tumor
benign cementoblastoma
malignant neoplasms of soft tissues
squamous cell carcinoma
metastasis to gingiva
kaposi’s sarcoma
malignant lymphoma
malignant neoplasms of hard tissues
osteosarcoma
langerhans cell disease
traits of calcified fibroblastic granuloma
reddish and ulcerated w/ fibrous proliferation in which hard tissue is formed
highly cell rich
differential diagnosis b/ calcified fibroblstic grnuloma
pyogenic granuloma
traits of pyogenic granuloma
on gingival margin ulcerated, reddish or blue w/ bleeding
highly vascular w/ chronic inflammatory cells
differential diag. w/ pyogenic granuloma
pregnancy tumor
traits of peripheral giant cell granuloma
can be anywhere on mucosa, pedunculated or sessile and red or purple
focal collection of multi-nucleated osteoclast like giant cells prob from perio ligment oricin whih richly cellualar and vascular stroma and collagenous septa
diff diag from giant cell granuloma
focal fibrous hyperplasia
char. of periaplical cemental dysplasia
tooth is vital
usually no sympt but periapical bone is replased by cellular fibroblastic tissue through a cementoblastic phase
traits of hemangioma
freq tumors of oral mucosa
flat or raised soft lesions that may bleed and blanch w/ pressure
can be capillary or cavernous
diff diag of hemangioma
mucous cysts, pyogenic granuloma
traits of nevus
pigmented lesion containing melanocytes in CT instad of ep where it’s supposed to be
seen in palate
flat of slightly raised brown or black often confused w/ amalgam tattoo
