Q

hydroelectric power

importance economically

A

the water in mountainous areas can be collected and stored in a dam. The steep slopes of the mountains and narrow valleys provide a suitable environment for damming water. This water can be used to generate hydroelectric power (HEP). Dams may also be used to store drinking water which can then be transferred to urban areas.
e.g. Swiss 70% electricity is from HEP.
