The juxtaposition of the scene and contrast of light to dark atmosphere where Commodus ask “Why is he not dead?” Characterisation and his dialogue, allow the audience an insight into the private perspective

Commodus perspective

A

This private perspective is further emphasised through his dialogue “This vexes me. I am terribly vexed” The repetition emphasises Commodus anger that Maximus is not dead, how he is an obstacle in his way as an emperor.
