Congress
the national legislative body of the U.S., consisting of the Senate, or upper house, and the House of Representatives, or lower house, as a continuous institution.
Executive Branch
the branch of government charged with the execution and enforcement of laws and policies and the administration of public affairs; the executive.

Republican
In a republican government, citizens have a lot of power — their vote determines who is running the government.
Democrat
an advocate of democracy. a person who believes in the political or social equality of all people.
Election
a formal and organized process of electing or being elected, especially of members of a political body
voting rights
A federal law passed in 1965 that states that no voting qualification, prerequisite, or standard practice or procedure shall be imposed or implied by any state or political subdivision to deny or abridge the right of any citizen of the United States to vote because of race or color.
electoral college
(in the US) a body of people representing the states of the US, who formally cast votes for the election of the president and vice president.
Constitution
a body of fundamental principles or established precedents according to which a state or other organization is acknowledged to be governed.

a constitutional right to reject a decision or proposal made by a law-making body.
